    This position is an integral part of a creative and technical team behind the design and development of advanced power conversion systems, primarily bidirectional inverters and converters for use in energy storage applications ranging from 100kW to 2500kW.  A creative outlook on power electronics with experience in product development or research and development is necessary to be successful in this role.

    Essential Functions

    • Interface with a cross-functional team for development and product release, primarily bidirectional inverters and converters for use in energy storage applications ranging from 100kW to 2500kW.
    • Write embedded control code for the inverters - experience on TI and/or National Instruments required
    • Perform tests on circuit boards and on complete power conversion equipment
    • Compile and analyze operational test data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or products
    • Analyze test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications
    • Write detailed specification and test procedures for validation of power converters
    • Participate in the design, component selection, and layout of control PCB’s
    • Perform circuit systems analysis.
    • Must be able to make maximum use of commercially available components and understand the limits of technology
    • Must be able to select power electronic components and perform steady state and transient calculations necessary to make system design decisions, such as switching and resistive losses, component sizing and interaction between subsystems
    • Must be able to specify component attributes, understand compliance requirements, and communicate ideas and specifications through the use of schematics and modeling
    • Hands on experience with embedded DSP and FPGA and peripheral I/O is required and test experience is desired
    • Knowledge and experience in grid modeling, controls modeling and/or magnetics modeling software is desired
    • Must be eager to be a leader in a dynamic, motivated technical team of professionals working toward a common goal
    • Hands-on power testing, qualification testing and interaction with customers and collaborators
    • A general understanding of standard test equipment, scopes, meters and debugging equipment is required

    Minimum Job Requirements

    • 5 years of industry or advanced research laboratory experience, required.
    • Proficiency in electrical system modeling, required.
    • Experience in electromagnetic software, preferred.
    • Experience in designing and testing power electronic control systems
    • Demonstrated experience controlling inverters >100 kW
    • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary, product-focused, team environment
    • Proven mastery of various control methodologies including, but not limited to: vector control, and PWM modulation schemes for multi-level converters
    • Familiarity with FPGAs

    • Master’s in science, preferred

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

    Supervisory Responsibility - This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment- This position is based in South Burlington, VT. The position operates in both a professional office environment and manufacturing environment. Regular trips to manufacturing plants for observation, research or customer visits are likely to be required.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work - This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position requires periodic off hours and weekend work.
    Travel - This position may require periodic domestic and/or international travel.
    Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable) - This position may involve access to ITAR (International Traffic and Arms Regulations)-controlled information, requiring verification of US-immigration status which is used solely for determining applicable ITAR licensing requirements.
